Academics
Wyoming e Academy of Virtual Education holds the highest standards for its academics. While courses are accessed online, real Wyoming certified teachers teach every single course. Some courses are created by our own teachers and all courses meet or exceed Wyoming Content Standards.The vast majority of our offerings are provided by class.com delivered via eCollege. eCollege is a course management system that functions similarly to BlackBoard and WebCT.
The following guidelines have been established for our students:
- Students will be recognized for their participation and progress in all academic areas and for their general participation in the schooling process.
- Students will be provided the opportunities to develop themselves as whole persons: emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally. We will understand every student's learning style and needs.
- Parents will be involved from the very beginning to ensure that their students is gaining the maximum educational benefit.
The following guidelines will be followed with the integration of the curricular areas:
- All core curricular areas will be designed around the community's needs and goals.
- All courses will be aligned to the state and national standards. They will also be aligned with the cultural needs and concerns of the community.
- All teaching styles will be holistic and relevant to Native American cultural knowledge, materials, methods, and language utilization; leadership training; and community elders, role models, and mentors.
- When feasible, hands on, inquiry based learning; problem solving; cooperative group activities; and community resources will be utilized.
- All curriculum will be evaluated in various on-going ways including performance based evaluation, comparison to the community goals, and tracking the implementation, impact, and outcomes of the curriculum.
Our teachers are prepared to:
- Understand the culture of our indigenous people and students who are being educated.
- Emphasize and integrate Native traditional knowledge in their teaching.
- Become skilled in a variety of teaching/learning styles appropriate to Native students; such as hands-on inquiry based learning, cooperative learning, and problem solving strategies.
- Make all content relevant to Native students by including community members and resources in the teaching and learning process.
